WINE ENTHUSIAST

Orbite 2012 from 7.5 acres of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a rich wine, very perfumed and with layers of ripe fruit. It is lightly structured, full of red berries with a firm tannic character in the background. Under winemaker Olivier Dauga, the wine needs to age but has all the fruit potentiel there. Drink from 2018. NOTE 91

Aged both in wooden tanks and wood barrels, this smooth, silky rich wine is impressive. A blend of one-third each of Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, it is dense, dark and spicy. Juicy black fruits give the wine its ripe character. At the same time the structure keeps the opulent fruitiness in check. The wine is showing well now, although it will be better kept until 2018.

TASTED 100% BLIND

TASTED 100% BLIND
TASTED 100% BLIND

Château Cantinot Orbite 2011 :

Red wine with a slightly developed colour; the core is medium ruby, but the rim is indicating a certain evolution. Quite expressive nose here, with a lot of spiciness; I get notes of leather, some tobacco, dry spices. Fruit character is quite on the sweet side, fairly ripe, with sweet plum and sweet red berries.
There’s a hint of oak there but pretty well integrated, I think just a touch of something lightly roasted. Palate is quite nicely rounded already; it’s still a rather youthful wine but I think in terms of texture, the tannins have dissolved pretty well. I get that sweet red fruity character, like sweet plum, those red berry notes, and again a dash of that spice box.
Quite rounded and unctuous in terms of texture. There’s a fair deal of complexity as well, because we have that fine spiciness lingering on the finish. So nice character here, a certain complexity, fine drinkability.
A wine with not a huge density yet still with the weight to go on and develop for some years; but I find it drinkable already.

Château Cantinot Orbite 2014 :
A Bordeaux Blend Dry Red Table wine from France, Cotes de Blaye,Bordeaux,France

  • eRobertParker.com # 220 (Aug 2015)
  • Rating: 89
  • Drink 2015 - 2020

Review by Neal Martin : The 2014 Orbite at Château Cantinot contains no SO2. It has a blueberry and blackcurrant-scented bouquet with a touch of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with the 50% Malbec combining well with the Merlot, almost Argentinean-like with a gutsy, blackberry, saline finish. This is a well-crafted wine that should drink well over the next 5 or 6 years.

Primeur 2015 Tasting

Château Cantinot Orbite 2015 :

  • Rating: 87 - 89
  • Drink Date: 2018 - 2027
  • Date tasted: 15th Jul 2016

Reviewed by Neal Martin : The 2015 Château Cantinot Orbite is a selection of Malbec and Merlot that form half of the blend each with SO2 added just for the bottling. It has a very ripe and opulent nose with blueberry and cassis fruit, perhaps a little Mediterranean in style, an almost honeyed aroma tucked underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry. This feels chewy in the mouth, grainy in texture with balsamic and white pepper liberally sprinkled over the finish. This should be intriguing once in bottle from next year, by which time I hope that the nose gains more refinement.

GAULT ET MILLAU

Orbite 2011 :
A marvel of a wine ! Tremendously dense, yet above all, very supple and approachable. The framework of the body is long, mineral, saline with vibrant texture. Unforgettable and Magic.

Orbite 2010 :
This wine plunges, one into the universe of dark, black macerated fruit, aromatic root nuances and reminds one of the French, liquorice based Zan sweets. The palate provides fine tension and energy and is full of freshness, all of which is brought together by the delicious, juicy, notes of black, berried fruit. The tannins are still young and vigorous; thus decanting this wine is highly recommanded in order to ensure full enjoyment of its potential.

Orbite 2009 :
Aromas of fresh, red fruit blend with the delicate nuances of spice and torrefaction, forming a delicious bouquet. The palate is balanced, harmonious, and elegant with perfect digestibility, while remaining straightforward and approachable. Refined tannins support the freshly fruited body and structure, offering a tasting experience which continues for long moments in the mouth, culminating in a savoury and succulent finish.
